『北海道の木に触れ、削り、見つける。あなただけの木目との出会い』
木彫りSawoofは、北海道の森が育んだ銘木を使用したカトラリーや器などの製作を行う工房です。

札幌市立高専（当時）で建築を学び東京で設計の仕事に就いた後、故郷の北海道に戻った。人生の転機となったのは、道東で暮らしていたとき、子育て中に出会ったアイヌの長老、諏訪良光さんとの出会いだ。

塘路湖畔で音楽イベントを主催していた諏訪さんに10年間師事ながら、木工の技を学んだ。今は主にクルミの木でカトラリーを作り、アイヌ楽器のトンコリ作りも手がける。大まかな形を工房で作り、細部は自宅で丁寧に仕上げる。磨いていくうちに現れてくる木目の表情に魅せられる。

特にクルミの表情が好き。材となる木材は近隣の森から調達し、自然乾燥させている。

For Sawako Koiwa, wood has always been a source of inspiration. After her studies at Sapporo Municipal Technical College and a stint as an architect in Tokyo, she found herself drawn back to the forests of her native Hokkaido. There, while raising her child in the eastern Hokkaido region, she met someone who would change her life: an Ainu elder named Yoshimitsu Suwa.

By the peaceful shores of Lake Toro, Mr. Suwa hosted music events and shared his deep knowledge of woodworking with Sawako for ten years. Today, she lovingly crafts cutlery from walnut wood and creates tonkori, an Ainu musical instrument. Her process is thoughtful and deliberate – rough shapes take form in her workshop before she adds delicate details at home. Each piece reveals unique patterns as she works, a reminder of the living beauty within the wood.

Walnut holds a special place in her heart, its rich grains telling stories of growth and time. She sources her wood from the surrounding forests, letting it dry naturally, staying true to both tradition and nature’s rhythm.

北海道の木で作るマイペンダント体験

小樽周辺の天然木を丁寧に磨いて自分だけのペンダントを作ります。木目や色は木の種類、部分、磨く角度によって千差万別な表情があります。自分が加工した木の名前を覚えて、これまでただの木だと思っていたものを少し特別に感じて貰えたら嬉しいです。出来上がったオーナメントに紐をつけてペンダントに、お好みでストラップやブレスレットにする事もできます。
